Belarus: 02.02.2011 Free visas for Belarusians in Lithuania
Lithuanian authorities decided to make an effort to ensure that the citizens of Belarus will be able to obtain free entry visas to their country in future.
According to the law in force, the government of Lithuania can reduce fees for national visas to 60 € only if the initiative will come from the Belarusian side.
This is why Lithuania encourages Belarus to initiate negotiations to waive fees for long-term national visas (category D). This type of visa enables its holder to travel to other Schengen countries within the restricted time period. Poland and Latvia have already cancelled fees for national visas for Belarusians.
This week, the European Union decided to impose sanctions on Belarus, including a travel ban on certain state officials.
