Belarus: 03.03.2011 European Commission to open negotiations on EU-Belarus visa facilitation
Delegation to Belarus announced that the Commission will open negotiations for the conclusion of an agreement on the facilitation of issuing short-stay visas between the EU and Belarus.
Last November the Commission made a Recommendation concerning opening negotiations for visa facilitation and readmission agreements with Belarus.

The Recommendation underlined the importance of developing and facilitating people-to-people contact to the benefit of the Belarusian society. After its examination by the Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia in early January and reaching a consensus on the draft mandate, the Council of the European Union adopted a Decision authorising the Commission to open the talks.
