Moldova: 03.03.2011 Ashton’s Visit to Chisinau to Strongly Foster Moldova-EU Relations

The speaker of the Parliament and acting President of Moldova Marian Lupu met in Chisnau on 3 March with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.

After the meeting Mr. Lupu said that Moldova regards the visit of a senior EU official as an important political sign and an evidence of EU support for reforms in the country. He stressed how determined authorities are to continue on the path of European integration, hence already started negotiations on an association agreement which would include comprehensive free trade zone and an action plan on the visa free regime with the EU with a national programme for its implementation.

Catherine Ashton congratulated Moldova’s present leadership on many successful actions carried out in a short period of time. Her first visit to Moldova was deemed successful and according to President Lupu, it will strongly foster the Moldova-EU relations.
