Moldova: 09.03.2011 Biometric Passports Will Be Cheaper

Following the meeting of the Acting President of Moldova with the heads of Parliament-subordinated agencies on 9 March it has been decided that biometric passports in Moldova will be much cheaper and Vladimir Molojen will resign as head of State Enterprise “Registru”.

During a meeting two weeks earlier, Marian Lupu, the acting President of Moldova, heavily criticized the activity of parliament-governed agencies and promised that the price of biometric passports will reduced. It means that a biometric passport issued in 6 hours will cost 1500 MDL, almost two times less than previously announced.

Mr. Lupu announced that the head of “Registru” Vladimir Molojen will be dismissed for improper management of funds. He said that state institutions regulate prices, which they often try to increase.
