Moldova: 17.03.2011 Moldova to Conclude First Stage of Implementing EU Visa Liberalization Plan by Late 2011

According to acting President and Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Marian Lupu, the first stage of the implementation of the EU-Moldova action plan will be completed by the end of 2011.

During his visit to Brussels, Marian Lupu announced that the first stage of the implementation of the action plan for the liberalisation of the visa regime will be completed by late 2011 and he had already asked European authorities’ for the support to obtain a mandate to advance to the second stage. Acting in accordance with EU recommendations and securing such a mandate would mean that Moldova could start negotiations on a free trade agreement with the EU.

“These are technical recommendations, such as Moldova taking measures related to its status of member of the World Health Organization, measures in the trade sector, as well as in the phytosanitary sector,” Mr. Lupu explained. He is certain that the EU wants political stability in Moldova and is ready to provide all necessary assistance.
