During the talks held by Mr. Hryschenko and Iurie Leancă, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, both parties agreed to speed up work on the demarcation of the Ukrainian-Moldovan state border and welcomed the settlement of this outstanding issue. According to the statement issued by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, the main focus of the meeting was development of bilateral cooperation and the European integration of both Ukraine and Moldova. Prospects for the liberalisation of visa regime and for the creation of a free trade area were discussed as well.

“Confirming our common strategic goal – EU integration – today we signed an important document that will ensure the overall coordination of efforts by Kyiv and Chisinau in this area – a joint statement on cooperation in the field of European integration,” Hryschenko said. He expressed his conviction that cooperation with the Council of Europe will help Moldova to face challenges of democracy and make significant progress.

Other issues raised during the visit include strengthening cooperation within international institutions, particularly during Ukraine’s presidency in the OSCE in 2013 and current Moldovan presidency of the GUAM.
