Visa-free regime with European Union will work no earlier than 2015

A visa-free regime between Ukraine and the European Union will be introduced no earlier than 2015 under an optimistic scenario.

Volodymyr Horbach

This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv by political analyst of the Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation Volodymyr Horbach. “I think that in the nearest three years it should not be expected without fail (introduction of the visa-free regime with the EU – Ed.). In the best case, it will occur following 2015,” he said answering questions when Ukrainians will be able to freely travel to the EU. Horbach paid attention to forecasts of the public organization Europe without Barriers, which is engaged in monitoring of fulfillment of the Action Plan on Visa Liberalization, granted by the European Union to Ukraine. According to them, completion of the first legal stage of fulfillment of the Action Plan on Visa Liberalization will take place no earlier than 2012. “And there will be also the implementation stage, which is more complex,” the expert noted. At the same time, the analyst emphasized on the need to recognize success achieved by the Ukrainian power in implementation of the Action Plan on Visa Liberalization, adding that “this trend does not concern any political things.” “In this direction, the EU does not put any conditions of the political character. This is an exclusively technological process,” he said.
