Czech Republic to back Moldova’s efforts to secure EU’s visa free regime

The Czech Republic will back Moldova s efforts to secure a visa free regime with the European Union, the head of the commission for foreign affairs of the Czech Chamber of Deputies, David Vodrazka, said after a Chisinau meeting with the chairman of the Moldovan parliamentary commission for foreign policy and European integration, Igor Corman.

David Vodrazka said that the Czech delegation’s visit to Moldova is a signal that the Czech Republic sees the partnership with Moldova as important. He noted that as Moldova is viewed as a leader of the Eastern Partnership, there are pre-requisites for it to get a visa free regime as soon as possible.

Corman said that at the meeting the sides discussed bilateral cooperation, as well as the situation in the region and within the Eastern Partnership. “I informed our colleagues about the main short-term points on our European agenda, about the fact that we are at the final stage of adoption of the legislative framework on visa free regime. We are aware that this process largely depends on the political will of officials from Brussels and the European capitals, and at this point we enjoy full support from the Czech colleagues,” Corman said.

Corman noted that Moldova is among the five countries selected as cooperation partners of the Czech Republic, being the biggest beneficiary of assistance from the Czech Republic in 2012.
