Moldovans likely to travel freely to Europe even before settling Transnistrian conflict – EU diplomat

Moldova may secure a visa free regime with the EU even before settling the Transnistrian conflict, the head of the EU Delegation to Chisinau, Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, said today.

Transnistrian region

Schuebel noted that Moldova has lately made significant progress in solving the Transnistrian issue. “Official negotiations in the five plus two format have been resumed, and steps have been taken to restart the transportation of goods via the region. If we come to discuss the implementation of a visa free regime for the Moldovan citizens, then several solutions will be identified even in a situation of non-settlement of the Transnistrian conflict,” he said.

He expressed optimism, saying that over the last year Moldova got much closer to the EU. Schuebel noted that the EU is pressing in no way Moldova to adopt a law on anti-discrimination, but voiced hope that the authorities would be able to pass this law.
