Moldovan premier chairs meeting of Commission for European Integration
Prime Minister Vlad Filat today presided over a meeting of the Commission for European Integration, the government’s communication and press relations department has reported.
The participants in the meeting examined two main issues: the approval of the mandate for the second round of talks on the creation of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, as an integrant part of the Association Agreement and the fulfilment of the Plan on the liberalization of the visa regime with the European Union.
Thus, the members of the commission approved the main principles of the Moldovan negotiators in the second round of talks with the European partners on the creation of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, due on 11-15 June. Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Valeriu Lazar said that this round would focus on juridical aspects. He added that all the commitments undertaken by Moldova within the first round of negotiations held in March 2012 had been fulfilled.
The prime minister said that the talks on the creation of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with the European Union include six rounds and are scheduled till October 2013. In the context, he asked the relevant bodies to pay concerted efforts to ensure the quality and the swift advance in the talks.
As for the Moldovan-European dialogue on a visa-free regime, Foreign and European Integration Minister Iurie Leanca said that Moldova had fulfilled the first chapter of the action plan on the matter, by approving 42 legislative and normative acts, in line with the undertaken commitments.
“At present, the government’s top priority for 2012 is to ensure the efficient and full implementation of the requirements envisaged within the second stage” Leanca said.
To this end, the list of legislative and normative acts that need to be worked out, reviewed and amended in 2012 had been compiled in line with the new provisions of the legislative framework approved within the first stage. At the same time, the list of institutional adjustment measures had also been worked out.
The participants in the meeting also tackled the estimative spending for the implementation of the second stage in the Moldovan-EU dialogue on the visa regime.
In the context, the prime minister demanded that the relevant institutions indentify the financing sources within a ten-day term.
Also, updated information on the progress made in the implementation of the additional measures of the National programme for the enforcement of the Moldova-EU visa-free regime action plan will be weekly forwarded to the Foreign and European Integration Ministry, which will submit reports on the matter to the government. The first progress report on the implementation of the second stage will be presented to the government on 15 July.
At the same time, Moldova will boost its cooperation with those 27 European Union member states, in order to promptly and comprehensively inform them on its headway in the implementation of the agenda for the liberalization of the visa regime.
