The European Commission will recommend the 28 EU member states to back the EU – Moldova free visa regime

„We are positive that we can initial the Association Agreement in Vilnius. We are confident that we will complete the implementation of the visa liberalization action plan by that time. The European Commission will recommend the 28 EU member states to back the EU – Moldova visa regime”, Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Chisinau, who has recently completed his mandate in Moldova, said in an interview for jurnal.md.

According to him it will be difficult to convince the 28 member states to do it, but not impossible. „If everything goes right, I am positive that probably at the beginning of the next year Moldova will benefit from a real free visa regime and that it will then manage to sign the Association Agreement, which will immediately enter into force”, Dirk Schuebel added.

He avoided expressing his view on the fact that the Great Britain blamed Romania of granting Romanian citizenship to the Moldovan people and that it could be reluctant to back the free visa regime for Moldova and that some other EU countries might have a similar approach.

„As EU Ambassador to Moldova I represent all the 28 EU countries. That is why please don’t expect from me to give details. I believe that the Government of Moldova knows to what countries it will have to give more details”, he said.
