EU-Armenia: New Steps for Future Co-operation

The EU and Armenia have successfully completed their joint scoping exercise and identified potential areas for future cooperation, European Neighbourhood Commissioner Johannes Hahn said during a visit to Yerevan this week.

He met the Armenian President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, as well as representatives of the opposition and civil society, and visited a Vocational Education Training project supported by the EU.

The Commissioner welcomed “the good progress made by Armenia as regards the implementation of the Mobility Partnership”, and noted that in near future, negotiations will start on a new EU-Armenia overarching agreement once the respective negotiating mandates are approved.

Hahn said Armenia could count on continued EU support to advance political and social reforms, implement the visa facilitation and readmission agreements and improve the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
