Regional Cooperation with Russia and EaP Countries in Focus of CoR Seminar
The Polish city of Elbląg hosted a seminar on the Regional Dimension of EU Cooperation with its Eastern Neighbours, organized by the Commission for Citizenship, Governance, Institutional and External Affairs of the Committee of the Regions.
The proximity of Kaliningrad and the complex geopolitical situation in Europe mean that relations with Russia are of particular interest for the region: part of the discussion will be the impact of local cooperation for relations with Russia. Panelists will also discuss the Small Border Traffic agreement between Kaliningrad and several Polish counties. This mechanism, introducing a visa-free regime, is unique in the EU and has proved an efficient instrument for helping economic recovery in the border counties.
Part of the seminar will be devoted to work already taking place within the Eastern Partnership, looking ahead to the 4th Eastern Partnership summit to be held in Riga in May.
