German Chancellor Voices Support for Georgia in Phone Call with PM Garibashvili

Germany supports Georgia’s European aspirations – these were the words spoken by German Chancellor Angela Merkel when she spoke to Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili in a phone conversation on April 29th.

The Georgian PM’s press office said the two leaders’ phone call focused on the “successful reforms implemented by Georgia in a short period” as it implemented a number of reforms stipulated in the Georgia-EU Association Agreement.

The sides also discussed the current situation in the region and the importance of the upcoming Riga Eastern Partnership Summit and visa liberalisation for Georgia.

Meanwhile the German Chancellor confirmed her planned visit to Georgia. “The exact date of the visit will be announced once it’s decided,” Garibashvili’s press office said.

During the phone call Merkel also expressed hope that the partnership between Georgia and Germany would continue to grow.
