Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze delivering a speech at the joint meeting of the Parliamentary Committees on Foreign Affairs and Euro Integration underlined that that despite the difficult times the EU faces now, Georgia has full support of all EU institutions with regard to visa liberalization.
“This is the result of the reforms the Georgian Government implemented, trust that exists towards Georgia and progress that’s not only noticed but recognised by all of our partners,” the Minister said.
The Foreign Minister underlined that there is nothing that can obstruct the process of visa waiver for Georgia.
“Now we need the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs to formally confirm the format trilateral decision and we are waiting for this decision in January. After that, the European Parliament will hold session in late January or early February. The European Parliament will elect president at the first session; accordingly, our issue will be discussed at the next or nearest session. We do not expect any significant obstacles in the process of visa liberalization, as we have support from all parties, all institutions and we achieved this support by reforms and the trust that the Georgian people have in the government, as well as by the progress recognized by all of our partners. So, we are sure that the process will end soon”, said Janelidze.
