Moldova: 24.01.2011 EU Welcomes Moldova’s Progress on Visa Free Regime Agenda

EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmström met in Moldova with the Prime Minister Vladimir Filat to present the Action Plan on the visa free regime with the EU and discuss visa regime liberalisation for the citizens of Moldova.

When the EU commissioner officially presented the Action Plan on the visa free regime for Moldova, she expressed her appreciation of the efforts made by the Moldovan government in order to fulfil the agenda on the visa regime and improve the Moldova-EU dialogue. “The fact that you obtained the Action Plan on the free visa regime only six months after the launch of talks confirms once again Moldova’s clear commitment to meet this objective,” Ms. Malmström said.

But in order to meet of the required stipulated by the Action Plan, Moldova will have to introduce biometric passports, tighten the borders and take up action against corruption and money laundering. The EU is, however, willing support Moldova every step of the way, the commissioner assured.
