Moldovan minister says law on equality of opportunities to facilitate talks on EU visa free regime

The law on equality of opportunities will make it possible to advance in the dialogue on the liberalization of the visa regime with the EU, Moldovan Foreign and European Integration Minister Iurie Leanca said at a news conference today.

“The quality and speed in the development of this dialogue is unprecedented,” the minister said.

The head of the Moldovan diplomacy also expressed conviction that “Moldova will secure a visa free regime in the nearest future, due to the openness of the European partners”. He recalled that previously, he vowed to obtain a visa free regime by the end of this year, in order “to raise the awareness of the political establishment”. “I will be more cautious while making predictions,” Leanca said.

The minister said that the previously-announced term was a feasible one, but a half-year delay occurred in this process. He added that the countries should voluntarily take over the community acquis. At the same time, he added that the adoption of the law on equality of opportunities was needed, since many Moldovans left to the EU seeking asylum there, on discrimination grounds.

At the same time, he said that no candidacy for the office of Moldovan envoy to Russia has been indentified so far. “I hope that we will find a candidate in one or two weeks. This is not a simple task, since relations between the states are complex and the person representing them should be very suitable,” the official said.
