EU mission to establish period of visa regime’s liberalisation

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister of Moldova – Iurie Leanca

An assessment mission of the EU will arrive to Moldova next year to set up the period of the liberalisation of the visa regime. The statement was made by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Iurie Leanca, after today’s meeting of the governmental commission for European Integration.

Leanca said the mission will arrive to Chisinau after the first implementation report of the conditions of the second phase of the Moldova-EU action plan on a visa free regime, is presented at Brussels next week.

Leanca said Moldova has met most of its commitments related to the liberalisation of the visa regime. However, there are some backlogs left in this sector, yet most of them are going to be eliminated by 13 December 2012.

The action plan on a visa free regime for Moldovan citizens was approved by the EU in 2010. Two weeks ago, the EU decided to switch Moldova to the second phase of the implementation of the action plan on a visa free regime. During a TV show yesterday, Filat said Moldovans will benefit from a visa free regime with the EU by 2014.
