Yeliseyev: Agreement with EU as important to Ukraine as fall of Berlin Wall to Germany

Ukraine should worthily stand the test towards the signing of the Association Agreement with the¬†European Union¬†that may happen during the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius in November, Ukraine’s representative to the European Union, Kostiantyn Yeliseyev, has said in a statement to UKRINFORM.

“It’s natural that this project has opponents both in Ukraine and abroad. We have to be prepared that our road to the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius will be more difficult every day. But we have to properly stand this test,” Ukraine’s representative to the EU said.

He said that recent events had shown that Brussels “recognizes the sincerity and effectiveness of Ukraine’s efforts in fulfilling the criteria for signing the Association Agreement.”

“We still have a lot of work to do. It’s important to realize during this work that the Association Agreement is a large-scale strategic project. In terms of Europe’s history, the agreement is as important to Ukraine as, for example, the fall of the Berlin Wall to Germany,” Yeliseyev said.

As reported, the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU is to be signed during the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius on November 28-29.
