EU Commission to propose visa liberalization for Ukrainians in two weeks – media

In two weeks the European Commission will send a legislative intention to the European Council concerning the liberalization of visa regime for Ukrainian citizens, according to the Radio Liberty Brussels correspondent Rikard Jozwiak.

“The EU commission will come with its proposal for visa libiralisation for Ukraine in two weeks”, Jozwiak tweeted on April 13.

Earlier this week media reported that the offer to cancel visas for Ukraine will be submitted to the EU Council on April 14.

The proposal must be approved by a qualified majority of EU member states and by the European Parliament to take effect.

On April 9 Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said that the outcome of the referendum in the Netherlands on ratification of the Ukraine-E.U. Association Agreement will not interfere with Ukraine-E.U. visa liberalisation process.

The Dutch voted by 61 percent last week in a non-binding referendum called by Eurosceptics to reject the association agreement on closer political, security and trade ties between Kyiv and the 28-nation bloc.
